About This Artwork

Artwork Description

One of the smaller pieces of this collection.

Beneath the sweeping branches of an ancient ginkgo tree, a solitary figure sits quietly as golden leaves descend around him. The scene unfolds between shadow and light: deep teal, midnight blue, and earthen brown gather along the left side of the composition, while warm ivory, amber, and muted coral illuminate the space beyond.

The ginkgo leaves are built from thick, sculptural strokes of paint, each one appearing suspended between the tree and the ground. Their fan-shaped forms drift through the atmosphere like fragments of memory, catching the light before disappearing into the richly textured earth below.

The seated figure remains partially turned away, his posture suggesting contemplation rather than defeat. Surrounded by falling color, he occupies a private pause within the changing season, a moment when the world continues moving while the spirit becomes still.

With its layered palette, expressive surface, and dramatic contrast of cool shadow and golden illumination, Fall of the Ginkgo Leaves reflects on solitude, transition, remembrance, and the quiet beauty found in letting go.

Artist Statement

The ginkgo tree has survived for millions of years. It has endured changing climates, destruction, and time itself, yet every autumn it releases its leaves in a sudden cascade of gold.

In this painting, the falling leaves represent more than the arrival of a new season. They speak to the moments when life asks us to surrender what we cannot carry forward: grief, fear, old identities, unfinished conversations, and versions of ourselves that no longer belong to the life ahead.

The figure beneath the tree is not entirely alone. He is held within the movement of the leaves, the branches, the shifting light, and the earth beneath him. His stillness becomes a form of listening.

Fall of the Ginkgo Leaves is about the fragile interval between loss and renewal. It is the moment before we understand what change has given us, when all we can do is sit beneath it, allow it to fall, and trust that the ground will transform what remains.
