Making Waves Together

The Mabazza Foundation Supports the Wang YMCA Sea Dragons Swim Team

In January 2026, The Mabazza Foundation was honored to receive support through the City of Boston’s Let’s Play Sports Grant, allowing the Foundation to help strengthen and equip the Wang YMCA Sea Dragons Swim Team.

The Sea Dragons are more than a swim team. They are a community in motion: young swimmers, dedicated coaches, supportive families, and a YMCA rooted in access, inclusion, and opportunity. Through the Wang YMCA’s welcoming approach, the Sea Dragons open doors for many children and families, including those who may face financial barriers, health challenges, chronic illness in the family, or the need for a supportive place to belong.

This grant helped provide equipment and training items that will allow the Sea Dragons to continue growing, competing, and swimming forward with confidence.

The YMCA Sea Dragons Swim Team represents teamwork, discipline, inclusion, and the joy of healthy competition.

A Team Worth Cheering For

The Mabazza Foundation was deeply impressed by the work of the Wang YMCA Sea Dragons, the meets they have attended, and the commitment they show in and out of the pool.

Swimming teaches more than speed. It teaches focus, patience, courage, and trust. Every lap becomes a lesson. Every practice builds confidence. Every meet gives young people the chance to discover what they are capable of when they are supported by a team.

For children and families connected to the Sea Dragons, the pool becomes a place of growth. It becomes a place where discipline meets joy, where effort turns into pride, and where young swimmers learn that they belong in the water and in the wider world of sport.

Through the City of Boston Let’s Play Sports Grant, The Mabazza Foundation helped provide swim equipment and training supplies for the Sea Dragons.

Better Equipment, Brighter Possibilities

With support from the grant, The Mabazza Foundation was able to purchase needed equipment and supplies for the team, including training tools and poolside items to help swimmers develop skill, strength, and confidence.

These items may look simple on a list, but in practice they matter. Kickboards, paddles, fins, snorkels, training aids, storage, and pool equipment can help swimmers improve technique, build endurance, stay organized, and prepare for competition.

For a team working hard to remain competitive, the right tools can make a meaningful difference.

They help swimmers train with purpose.
They help coaches teach with clarity.
They help the team move through practice with structure and pride.

And most importantly, they remind the swimmers that their community believes in them.

An Inclusive Team with a Powerful Mission

The Wang YMCA Sea Dragons reflect the best of what youth sports can be. Their inclusive spirit helps create a team environment where young people can participate, grow, and feel welcome.

This matters especially for families who may not always have easy access to competitive sports. It matters for children whose families are navigating financial hardship. It matters for those connected to chronic illness or cancer recovery, where healthy activity, community, and belonging can be deeply important.

The Sea Dragons show that sports are not only about winning races. They are also about opening lanes.

Lanes toward confidence.
Lanes toward wellness.
Lanes toward friendship.
Lanes toward opportunity.

The Sea Dragons continue to grow as a team through practice, perseverance, and community support.

Gratitude to the City of Boston

The Mabazza Foundation is grateful to the City of Boston for supporting this project through the Let’s Play Sports Grant. This investment helped turn a community need into real support for young athletes.

We are also thankful to the Wang YMCA of Chinatown, the coaches, families, volunteers, and swimmers who make the Sea Dragons such a meaningful part of the community.

A swim team does not grow because of equipment alone. It grows because people care enough to show up, encourage, coach, organize, cheer, and believe.

This grant helped place better tools into the hands of a team already doing beautiful work.

Swimming Forward

The Sea Dragons received these items with gratitude, and The Mabazza Foundation is proud to support them as they continue building strength, skill, and confidence in the pool.

Every swimmer deserves a chance to feel the thrill of progress.
Every child deserves a place to belong.
Every team deserves the tools to reach a little farther.

Through this grant, The Mabazza Foundation helped support a team that is already making waves in the best possible way.

The Sea Dragons are swimming forward, and we are proud to cheer them on. 🐉🌊
