About This Artwork
Artwork Description
A narrow path passes between autumn trees toward a quiet lake beneath a luminous golden moon. A sweeping dark trunk anchors the right side of the composition, balanced by smaller trees carrying crimson, copper, and rose-colored leaves on the left. Beyond them, the water forms a cool blue band beneath distant hills, opening the densely painted foreground into space.
Thick, interwoven strokes animate every part of the landscape. Emerald, ochre, rust, and turquoise build the grasses and fallen leaves, while curved passages of blue and green give the evening sky a restless movement. The moon glows through concentric strokes of yellow, cream, and orange, its light echoed across the sky and water. The warm earth of the path draws the eye forward, creating a clear passage through the painting’s richly textured surface.
Artist Statement
Where the Evening Leads explores the restorative experience of moving quietly through nature. The path gives the painting its direction, inviting the viewer to enter the landscape and follow it toward the open water. Trees frame that passage, creating a sense of enclosure that gradually opens into distance.
Color carries the emotional life of the work. Warm reds, golds, and copper tones move through the cool greens and blues, giving the evening a sustained vitality. The raised paint makes the landscape tangible: leaves gather in dense marks, grasses rise through overlapping strokes, and the sky turns around the moon.
The empty path leaves room for the viewer’s own presence. Its destination is a place to pause, where the lake broadens the view and moonlight gathers on the surface. The painting holds that moment of arrival—the release of a long breath, the pleasure of looking, and the quiet return of attention to the world around us.
