Endurance
Mountain in the Rain

A CLOSER READING
Even the final steps must be climbed.
This painting comes from a memory of the artist as a teenager walking through violent rain. On one particular day, it did not fall straight down. It came at an angle and struck his face with such force that an ordinary walk became a battle against the weather.
Here that memory returns on a mountain: rain drives diagonally across the climber while the summit rises almost within reach. Nearness to the peak does not soften the daily struggle. The painting is about the particular courage of continuing when the end can finally be seen, but not yet touched. This painting has been sold.
